LAxD is a meeting of masterminds and cultural worlds colliding that has been in the works subliminally for decades. As a dedicated bridge of the true roots of underground electronic music from Detroit and the contemporary nightlife landscapes of Los Angeles, this event will deliver in ways that will rejuvenate the spirit and reclaim focus on the core values of our esteemed scene.
The three-part evening will start with a happy hour-oriented record release party for intl fave and LA mainstay Dave Aju’s newly minted label Elbow Grease, complete with celebratory and complimentary Chicano treats, and will feature local vinyl DJ phenoms Regxelle and Rodney alongside Aju himself, launching both the label and it’s first single “X17” into the public sphere on home turf. The label and its initial release in particular are deeply indebted to the feel and aesthetics of the Motor City’s early transmissions, so a perfect entry point for the evening.
Then the Architects & Heroes team, responsible for some of the most engaging and endearing long-form online interviews with a wide array of musical and artistic talent of our times, helms the “In Conversation” segment: a livestream panel discussion with Detroit legends Claude Young and Sean Deason, LA-by-way-of-the-D UR denizen Dex Nomadico, Dave Aju, and a few guest surprises up their sleeves. Topics will range from the roots to the fruits of the cities’ deep connections and years of musical R&D in a field fraught with what feels like far more questions than answers in today’s industry.
Then finally The Black Lodge, who has been a consistent force in maintaining the truths of Midwest underground electronic music origins in the LA scene for years, will transport us deep into the night with captivating extended sets from both Claude Young and Sean Deason, as well as a b2b warmup session of the highest order from Nomadico and label nucleus Kosmik.
